Award Ceremonies: The Good, The Bad, And The Just Plain Boring

Award Ceremonies, they are designed to give people of all ages satisfaction in themselves for achieving a variety of goals. The variety of ceremonies is large and they can differ in excitement levels. Last weekend it seemed there was two ceremonies going on in my world although I was only invited to one.

To overgeneralize things I can start off by telling you that all award ceremonies are boring, whether or not you are receiving an award at them at all. Especially when over 100 other people are getting the same award.

In my ceremony we were recognized for earning the Canada Cord in Girl Guiding, there was also some adult awards and some Commissioner's Gold award for Rangers. We had to line up in alphabetical order to walk in and sit behind our families. I was number 20 out of 114, we sat in the backish of the auditorium.

We also had special cards prepared that had our favorite guiding moments on them. So imagine over 100 girls walking up to a microphone and telling us their favorite moment. It's interesting at first, but then it gets just plain boring. It was fun to get a certificate and stand up in front of all those people, even if it scared me to death.

If you didn't know, I don't like public speaking. At all. So I enjoyed it but was scared to death at the same time.

All in all the things to remember about award ceremonies are that you're supposed to enjoy them. So if you have a ceremony coming up be sure to have fun and be proud.

A Brand New Project

Hello everyone,

I wanted to apologize for my depressed post from before, my birthday turned out to be pretty great actually. A lot of people wished me happy birthday on facebook and in real life. I got some great gifts and celebrated my day pretty well.

Now I'm pretty excited to share with you the news of a new project I'm working on with two of my friends. It's a blog called http://twogeeksandanotaku.blogspot.com/ and the three of us will be posting stuff on a weekly basis. Everything from reviews, opinions, discussions, and experiences is what you'll find. Right now we're in our beginning stages and only one post has been made but it will be growing.

*shameless promotion done*

Tomorrow I get to go to a girl guiding awards ceremony because last year I received the Canada Cord. Which is an award you can get in pathfinders by completing various requirements and challenges. So I'm pretty excited about that.

School is going well, especially on my birthday. So I'll write to you later!

My Birthday

Hello all,

Yes it's that time of year again, my birthday. It's tomorrow (the 21st) for your records. I don't really know how to feel about it because it seems so unimportant to me. I've been lying that I'm 15 since the summer and now I will be. It's not like it makes a difference anyways, I have the maturity level of someone more than two years older than me anyways.

Some people know it's my birthday, mostly my friends and some people who have been in my class for years. If someone wishes me happy birthday who isn't in those categories I assume they got the reminder on Facebook. Therefore it is invalid.

Sorry if I seem so negative right now, I can't really pen the reason why I'm feeling this way. I just need to let things out I guess. But tomorrow I get a bunch of people saying Happy Birthday! And actually acknowledging me for once.

Anyways I'd like to say hello to the people who have been reading me! And thanks to I Love Reading And Writing for linking them to me!

:)

Picture Day

Well it seems that the annual school picture day is upon us again, or at least at my high school. By the time you read this and I finish writing it'll be the end of the day for me and it'll all be over for another year. To help you out I have some tips! Some are borrowed, some are mine, all useful!

When putting an outfit together for picture day you have to keep the weather in mind. For instance I had planned on wearing a dress for my picture but since I walk and the weather was cold so I had to swap to a shirt and tie (with added Gryffindor pin). Don't be too strenuous when walking to school, get a ride if possible because you may sweat on your way to school and you don't want embarrassing sweat stains in your picture to be remembered forever. Also keep the background of the picture in mind, you don't want your head to be floating. Dress nicely but don't wear a costume, be yourself!

When packing your bag pack a hairbrush, a small mirror, some touch up makeup, and a lunch that is easy to eat and won't stain if your picture will be in the afternoon.

At my high school they call down by last name in alphabetical order, keep that in mind during the day. If you're in an earlier letter (example I would be C) you are lucky. If you aren't stop by the bathroom on your way to the photo area to touch up with a hairbrush and makeup or whatever else you would need.

Don't be afraid to practice your smile while in the washroom, and remember to smile with your eyes so it's genuine. Once you get to the photo area give the photographer your order sheet and follow their instructions. They are instructing you for a reason. Be confident, sit up straight and don't forget to smile!

Ps. I seem to have Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide on the brain lately, it's a good show with good tips that I actually use and borrow for here time to time so I recommend watching it even if it's for middle school children. The jokes aren't just aimed for kids anyway so even an adult will enjoy it (my mother is proof). Go find it on the net somewhere because Nickelodeon decided to stop airing it, or look to family during the weekly afternoons before school ends. It's fun to watch when you're home sick!

Thanks!

The Third Wheel Effect

Definition: Where one person hangs out with two people who are dating in situations and places where couples usually hang out like at the movies or at restaurants.

Third wheelers make the situation extremely awkward for a couple to show affection towards each other or talk about things pertaining to their relationship.

Thank you Urban Dictionary.

Now there is more than one type of third wheel, to be specific there are three. The first and our focus today is the type described above and the second one is a group of three friends that are most of the time the same gender. Two of the three are best friends and the other who may or may not have been best friends with one of them first feels left out and excluded. The third one is similar to the first one except for the fact that the third wheel is wanted by one half of the romantic couple to make things not so romantic.

Today we focus on the third type and a little personal tie in I have to it.

Story time!

As you all probably know, I am an average female high school student. I am a friend and confidant, not someone's romantic interest. This starts when I was waiting at my friends locker's for lunch (where we always eat) when another friend of mine (let's call her Anne, to keep things simple) came up to her locker, which is next to my two friend's lockers.

It starts when I'm standing in the hall during lunch waiting to meet my friends at their lockers. Then my other friend comes by because her locker is next to theirs and starts talking to me. Let's call her Anne, okay. So I say hello to Anne and make pleasant conversation and she starts talking about how she has to go out for lunch with this guy. Apparently this guy has a thing for her and keeps going out for lunch with her, now he assumes that they are dating while she remains uninterested. Now she doesn't want to go out for lunch with him again alone. So she invites me to attend this lunch date to make it less romantic.

I agreed, mostly because she offered to buy me lunch and an ice cap (my guilty pleasure). So when we walked up to him in the middle of the crowded front foyer and I see his face fall completely and then my conscience kicks in and tells me I'm wrong. Then I open  my mouth.

To say that Anne is a bad liar is a bit of an understatement, basically I did all the lying. I got the guy to believe that I forgot my lunch and that Anne owed me money so she was going to buy me my lunch.

I had to carry the conversation basically because the guy barely spoke so it was me and Anne talking to each other, it felt sufficiently less romantic than her other times out for lunch apparently.

After a while he seemed to get used to me and didn't glare at me that much, but I think he lost it when my friends came by. We were at Tim Hortons and who do I see in the line up once we sit down? The very friends I was waiting for in the first place! So they came over to our table briefly and made things even less awkward for me but not for the guy!

Once they left we started eating and we stopped talking. Tim Hortons was pretty busy with people from school to angry looking men in suits during their coffee break. That was when I discovered the third wheel effect and sufficiently understood the concept. Truth be told, it's actually hilarious!

After we got back to school I trailed around them for the rest of lunch and noted the guy's relieved face when I left briefly to go to the washroom. When I got back Anne was talking to another friend of hers (who is also a guy) and his relief was long gone from his features.

I stayed until lunch ended, during my next two periods I reflected on how it went and how the Third Wheel Effect changes social situations. I sound so professional but I actually drew a diagram, it was entertaining. More entertaining than Civics anyway.

Now I've shared my story with you, I hope you enjoy these sort of posts I've been writing as of late. I'm trying out different faces of my blog to decide which one I want to show you so if you like this very realistic side of me let me know. I've got a brain full of it.

First day of school reactions

It was my first day of school today (Tuesday) and it's hard to nail down my thoughts about how I feel. So I guess it would be best to talk about all of it.

My alarm went of at 5:30am this morning, I woke up at 6:00am. Had breakfast, did my hair, got dressed and all that lovely stuff. Then my mother, in all her nostalgic glory made me pose for a picture. It was cold and she made me take off my jacket to see what I was wearing, I froze. Then I ran off and walked to school with a friend, it was fun we caught up and made it through the rain (okay it was mist but my hair still got wet).

We got to school and it was filled with grade nines! It's like little short people were infested in our school. And they knew nothing about hallway etiquette. I made my own set of hallway rules at the beginning of grade nine because it is the worst thing in the world to get in the way of someone older than you. These grade nines knew nothing, we had to push through the foyer just to enter the school.

My first class was math, eugh. I usually don't like math but today was okay we chose lockers and did some review from a textbook. Which is weird because we normally don't get textbooks because we can't afford them. I could go on a whole rant about lockers and their locations but I'll save that for later. My locker is in a main hallway, which isn't really good in a sense but it's convenient for me.

Then I had science, lunch, civics, and french. I could honestly rant for many a paragraphs about civics but I'll let you off now :)

I'm staying up late...again

Hello,

Tomorrow (or most likely by the time you read this, today) is the first day of school and I'm going into grade 10. I'm actually excited, strange isn't it? Well I'm not nervous this time like I was last year, now we have little niners below us to have all the nerves for us. Don't worry our school doesn't do those stupid minor niner initiations like some schools do. We're pretty nice about welcoming kids into the school and being nice to them.

I think I want my life to be like a musical though, during the school lunch period I just jump up and sing a song and everyone mysteriously knows it at joins in. Wouldn't that be fun? Well I think so.

Anyways this is a short post because I should be getting to sleep early because I woke up at 10:30 this morning! So I need to fix my sleep cycle.

See you everyone!
